German auto giant Audi has
revealed that it is currently developing an all-electric family car
with a range of 450-km to rival the Tesla Model S. The upcoming
electric vehicle will be built on an all-new platform and is expected
to arrive in 2017.
"Such a car is under
development," said Hackenberg. "I was able to re-engineer
the R8 e-tron project and technology with the team and we are on the
way to a range of 450km.” He added that the R8 e-tron project was a
trailer for another long-range electric car, however the upcoming
model will not be a sports car.
Learn More About This Electric Car
The company did not reveal
any further details, but experts suggest that the Audi's upcoming
all-electric car will adopt a saloon body. The large size will make
the car more practical and also allow the company to package the
large battery pack under the large floor, without encroaching upon
boot and passenger space.
