It may seem like Apple
will have a hard time marketing an iOS 9 update that doesn't come
with the flashy additions we got in iOS 7 and iOS 8.
don't expect iOS 9 to go
entirely without new features. There are some rumored iOS
enhancements in the works that could be released in the next
operating system update, including transit directions, indoor mapping
abilities for Maps and split-screen multitasking for iPads, and some
minor improvements to Siri to make the iPhone version look like the
more colorful Apple Watch version.
Transit options are said
to be coming to Maps in iOS 9, with Apple providing directions that
include bus, subway, and train routes for the first time since Apple
Maps replaced Google Maps.
The much-anticipated
split-screen multitasking feature may also be included with iOS 9,
allowing iPad users to open two apps at once or two versions of the
same app. This would let a user open two side-by-side Safari windows
or two Pages documents on their iPads, for example. Windowing options
are said to include 1/2, 1/3, and 2/3 views.
WWDC will likely see the
debut of HomeKit, Apple's home automation platform. A dedicated
"Home" app within iOS 9 may accompany the launch, giving
HomeKit users a central location to add new HomeKit-compatible
devices, group devices by room, and control them.
